TAROT - The Meaning of the Cards

The Four of Wands

hex

The Four of Wands card indicates the period of peace in which we open and leave ourselves to enjoy life. As a result of this sense of security, we are eager to step out of our defenses and our mystery to participate in the world. This means social life, conversation, entertainment and increased vitality, as well as an inner opening, through which we will be directly involved in the life around us and in our relationships we live in deeper togetherness.

Crowley Thoth Tarot - The Root of The Powers of Fire - The Four of Wands : Completion
Tarot Wands 4

FOUR OF WANDS : COMPLETION

These cards are attributed to Chesed. The connection between the number Four and the number Three is extremely complex. The important characteristic is that Four is “below the Abyss”; therefore, in practice, it means solidification, materialization. Things have become manifest. The essential point is that it expresses the Rule of Law.

In the Wand suit, the card [Four of Wands] is called Completion. The manifestation promised by Binah has now taken place. This number must be very solid, because it is the actual dominating influence on all the following cards. Chesed, Jupiter-Ammon, the Father, the first below the Abyss, is the highest idea which can be understood in an intellectual way, and that is why the Sephira is attributed to Jupiter, who is the Demiurge.

This card refers to Chesed in the suit of Fire. Being below the Abyss, it is the Lord of all manifested active Power. The original Will of the Two has been transmitted through the Three, and is now built up into a solid system:-Order, Law, Government. It is also referred to Venus in Aries, which indicates that one cannot establish one’s work without tact and gentleness.

The wands are headed by the Ram, sacred to Chesed, the Father-god Amoun-Ra, as also to Aries; but at the other end of the wands are the Doves of Venus.

In the symbol, the ends of the wands touch a circle, showing the completion and limitation of the original work. It is within this circle that the flames (four double, as if to assert the balance) of the Energy are seen to play, and there is no intention to increase the scope of the original Will. But this limitation bears in itself the seeds of disorder.

Raven's Tarot - The Four of Wands (The roots of the powers of Fire)
Tarot Wands 4

THE FOUR OF WANDS - COMPLETION

Tree of Life - Chesed

Astrology: Venus in the 3. decan of Aries
Tree of Life: Chesed through Fire

The Four of Wands represents Chesed - the power of condensation, growth and stability, standing in the structural discipline of the 4 - the work is done, the plan was successful, the Fire has settled and reigns over its realms.

Fire is the element that stands for Atziluth, the world closest to divinity, and though the card might talk of every possible endeavour - a job, a relationship, an intellectual research, it is most likely aiming at something more spiritual.
This explains the upcoming of the card in such seemingly inappropriate situations like big family troubles or failed business projects - hereby the card shows us that we've learned a lesson and that the failure in the 'profane' world was just what we needed to achieve more spiritual maturity.

Drive: Perfection, rest after labor, completion after effort and trouble, structure, control

Light: Completition, well earned rewards, rest after labor

Shadow: Overestimation, torpidity, loss of tranquility

Tarot Wands 4

FOUR OF WANDS

General Meaning

This suit, most often called "Wands" and sometimes called "Rods" or "Staves," represents initiative, ambition, drive and desire. This is the suit of enterprise and risk-taking.

A Four in this suit is the teamwork card, often symbolized by two couples who have come together to create something profitable and enduring. Quite likely, they will create a gift for the future — a business, hospital, theater or university. They represent the founding families of the future community that will grow around their inspiration. Teamwork is the key.

It takes time to build a grand vision; and other people of ambition and talent must be attracted to it for it to fulfill its potential. What we see here is the start-up group, the founding visionaries committing their energies to designing the blueprints and laying the groundwork. This partnership is the prototype for society or any grouping where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

In the Reversed Position

Seek stimulation from imaginative individuals to sustain your creative powers. When the Four of Wands is reversed, you may be losing touch with the needs of others; your inherent problem-solving skills could go dormant. You need stimulation and contact with creative individuals of a like mind. Consciously seek it out because it's not going to come to you.

In the Advice Positon

The Four of Wands in this position supports your good, productive, evolutionary ideas. Concentrate on networking: use your charisma and power to attract like-minded souls so you can significantly increase your sphere of influence — the more people you can reach, the better.

Your enthusiasm empowers your vision, which is thriving with possibilities. As you share more freely what is on your mind and in your heart, others will see themselves in your vision, so you naturally receive approval, support, assistance and abundance. In your own way, you are addressing a universal need.
